Year 1

We have just started our new topic ‘Exploring China’. Our next topic is ‘The Great Fire of London’. In phonics we have started learning about clusters, we will begin focusing on blending our sounds in preparation for the Phonics Screening. In literacy we are covering non-fiction texts as well as a fiction. In maths we are continuing addition and subtraction, place value as well as introducing multiplication.

PE has moved from Monday to Tuesday for the term. Could you please ensure that your child’s PE kit is in school every Tuesday. Earrings need to be removed before school, unless they are confident doing them on their own.

Our challenge homework for our topic ‘Exploring China’ is to create a poster all about China. The children could research facts about China, draw a picture or write their name in Chinese. These will be displayed on the topic board in class.

The challenge homework for ‘The Great Fire of London’ will go out at the end of this half term.

Lastly, ensure your child is reading every night and practising their spellings in preparation for their spelling test every Thursday morning.
