Admissions

The school operates a nursery for children from age 2, and a reception class for 4 year olds.

Key stage 1 consists of years 1 and 2 for pupils aged 5-7.

Key stage 2 provision spans years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Please look at our home page to see if there are any spaces at Westwood Academy currently.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.  We usually hold open mornings for parents to visit the school in the autumn term so that they can get a feel for the atmosphere and ethos of Westwood, to help in the decision making process when choosing a school for their children.  When this is not possible, we will provide an alternative method for prospective parents to get to know the school.

Children are entitled to a full-time place in the September following their fourth birthday.  Essex County Council coordinates admissions to the school for pupils joining at the start of Reception. They can be contacted at 0845 603 2200. Applications can be completed on line at www.essex.gov.uk/admissions

Paper copies of information and policies are available on request, for free, from the school office.

The number to admit is 30.

Under the s234 of the Education Act 1996 , the governing body is required to admit a child with a statement of Special Educational Needs that names the school.

In the event of oversubscription places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given;

  • Looked After Children;
  • Children living in the priority admissions area with a sibling attending the school;
  • Children living outside the priority admissions area with a sibling attending the school;
  • Other children living in the priority admissions area;
  • Remaining applications.

In the event of over-subscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given highest priority.

Mid-Year Admissions (joining at any point after the September entry of Reception year).

The school is responsible for managing applications that are outside of normal entry in Reception year.  The process we follow is set out in our WWA Mid-Year Application Process
