Year 1

We are beginning this term with the topic ‘Exploring China’. Well done for your fantastic posters all about China, they look great on our wall display. As an optional homework task for this topic you can research and write something using the Chinese symbols with the meaning next to it. Make it colourful, eye-catching and interesting.

We will move onto the topic ‘The secret life of plants and animals’ next half term. The optional homework task for this topic is to research into an exotic plant or an unusual animal and show your findings in a creative way for our wall display. Bring this into school for Monday 25th February.

In phonics we are recapping all of the learned sounds, focusing on blending, reading words and sentences. We have handwriting practise each week to encourage correctly formed lower and upper-case letters.  In writing we have started the half term practising our capital letters and full stops.

We will then move onto writing a non-fiction text about the UK. We will finish this half term with a key story called, The Magic Paintbrush. In Spring 2 we will start with labels and captions, move onto writing another non-fiction text and finishing with a key story called Super worm. In maths we are going to be very busy focusing on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, money and measurement. PE will be on Monday afternoon this term. Spellings will be stuck into the blue spelling books every Thursday for practise throughout the week in preparation for our test on Thursday morning.

Optional homework: 1) research and write something using the Chinese symbols with the meaning next to it. Make it colourful, eye-catching and interesting! 2) research into an exotic plant or an unusual animal and show your findings in a creative way for our wall display. Bring this into school for Monday 25th February.
