Chair of Governor's Welcome

Welcome to Westwood Academy

And it was good…

Whenever I visit Westwood Academy in my capacity as Chair of Governors I find myself thinking ‘yes, it was good’. Whether I am discussing ideas, plans and the future with the Headteacher or walking round the school and seeing children at work in their classroom, I am impressed by their behaviour and the work that I witness.

If you are able to visit the school I am confident that you will think so too.

It was not always the case. Like many schools, Westwood has emerged from the difficulties of the past. Since Simon Harbrow, the Headteacher took up his post in January 2010 there have been many changes and enormous progress in all areas of the school. He has a great team who are working hard to provide the best possible learning environment for the children.

Westwood Academy was launched in September 2011. The decision to convert was not taken lightly but has already proved a success. Amongst the benefits have been partnerships with other schools that have benefited our staff in particular. In turn this makes a great contribution to fulfilling our vision of ‘Together enabling the individual child’.

Of course the coveted Ofsted description of ‘outstanding’ rather than ‘good’ remains one of our objectives. It will come. Meanwhile, on behalf of the governors, I can wholeheartedly commend our school to you and know that like the children, staff, governors and other visitors to Westwood Academy you will be left thinking, in the most positive of way, ‘yes, it was good’.
